Frequently Asked Questions
Q.When we re-roof, is there any way to protect against ice dams?
A. Install additional venting, such as a ridge vent. This continuous vent helps to alleviate the heat in the attic space. The heat is what causes the snow to melt, causing ice on the eaves. An ice and water protection barrier must be placed from the eave to a point that is a minimum of 24 inches inside the exterior wall line of the building, per Uniform Building Code.
Q.My insurance company did not offer enough to cover the damages, what do I do?
A. Contact Fridley Roofing and Remodeling and we will schedule an appointment with your adjuster to review your claim and see that any necessary changes are made to ensure you receive a fair settlement.
Q.What will it cost me to replace my roof if the insurance company OKs the work?
A.Insurance policies all have deductibles and that deductible is all the insured would have to pay. When you select Fridley Roofing as your contractor, we can assure you that all insurable damage is covered in your claim. If there is a discrepancy between your insurance company and our estimate, we will gladly meet with the adjuster to clear up any problems. Many times insurance companies will take out depreciation from the value of your claim. Fridley Roofing will recover all of those funds for you.
Q. How do I know my property received any damage from the storms?
A. Hail can be spotted on many portions of your roof, siding, windows, fascia, or gutters. Metal has more memory, or dentability, than most other building materials. It is the first place a qualified inspector will look to determine if hail has affected the property. All roofs contain some kind of metal, whether it is vents, stacks, valleys, or flashings.
Q.If I suspect I have hail damage, what do I do?
A.Call your insurance agent. They will want to know the date of loss and what was damaged. The insurance company will give you a claim number and assign it to an adjuster. Immediately after you call your agent, call Fridley Roofing and Remodeling. The sooner your contractor gets involved, the more we can do for you. Some people prefer to call the contractor first, this is up to you. Fridley Roofing and Remodeling offers a free evaluation and estimate.
Q.Will the claim affect my policy?
A.No. Storms are considered an "act of God" and do not effect your rate. Your rate will not change depending upon your individual claim.
Q. Will I have to fight with the insurance company?
A. No. Fridley Roofing and Remodeling will handle your claim for you, similar to a lawyer in an accident claim.
Q. How much time do I have to file a claim after a storm?
A.There is no pre-set deadline according to law. Some insurance companies prefer to handle the claim within a certain amount of time. This will differ from company to company. No matter the age of your roof, the time of the storm, or the size of the hail - you always have the right to file a claim.
Q.Will I need to arrange with other contractors to perform some of the work?
A. No, Fridley Roofing and Remodeling is equipped and manned to service all your needs.
Q. How do I choose a roofing company?
A. Identify a legitimate, professional contractor... one that makes you feel comfortable. Remember that it is you that chooses the contractor, not the insurance company. Choose one that is knowledgeable about the products and installation. One that will watch your job daily and inspect your roof while it is in progress.
Q.How do I know if a roof repair qualifies as an insurance claim?
A.It has been our experience that many homeowners are under the false impression that they received no damage and are not entitled to a claim. Let the professionals at Fridley Roofing provide you with a detailed assessment and peace of mind.
Q. What is provided when you do a Free Inspection?
A. Our representative will provide you with a detailed breakdown of the inspection, a recent list of our references, license and insurance information. At the same time, we will answer all your questions that you may have and may offer some helpful suggestions.
Q. If my roof is not leaking, should I still have it replaced?
A. Yes. If there is storm damage evident on your roof, this will void any warranty you may have. The reason insurance companies replace hail damaged roofs is to provide their customers with the warranty the storm took away
